Ian McCall was slated to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but sadly had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to talk about his latest injury. Injury that forced him out of Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear from my own nostrils. I mean I’m literally in the physicians now speaking about it. It is exactly what it is, we train hard and I’m brittle apparently. I have to pull from a lot of s**t. It sucks, but if you train as hard as I do and you have been doing this as long as I do, its part of the game” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession has been only been plagued with accidents and it is frustrating. This is my chief source of income, I still have other things I do however, that is my main source. I have a little girl to feed, I feed on my own and it stinks. But on a different note, this really is my passion; this is precisely what I love to do. I’m 31 years old, I’m not getting younger I’ve already been in fights for 13 years. To watch my body fail me time and time again it is hard. It’s one of these things it makes you question a good deal. I am such a healthy person, my loved ones is like incredibly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a very strict diet. I’ve had my hip, groin tear, that is bad. I’m sure I will need to get a hip replacement . I’ve had three hand surgeries. I got into a car accident not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It’s always something, but it is far better than having a real job.” Getting Positive and Optimistic”Most of my life I have been a pessimist to be honest. I look at it in different ways, it could be worse, I might be dead. I might have lost full use of my arm or whatever. There are a whole lot of things I consider. I must keep a positive attitude because I have to be a good role model for team-mates along with my child. It’s one of those things I’m not going to sit around and sulk. That is what it is, I’ll be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II at UFC 191″Demetrious is evolving and I think that now he’s discovered a little more power in his punches. His overall game is constantly changing and becoming better. I believe he’ll conquer Dodson, is he likely to complete [him]? I don’t know. I believe this is one guy he will have difficulty finishing. He finished Horoguchi with one minute left, and as much as I want to beat his face in, he’s incredible. He is the exact man you want as winner when it comes to performance. I’m going to go with him this one for certain.” Loss to John Lineker”Oh man that has been enormous. I got overly emotional; I showed the first round that I could definitely beat him. People were just like’Oh he is a bantamweight’ I do not care; the man still isn’t very good I must have beat him. I believe I showed that you’re not likely to knock me out even though you are a big puncher. My face is going to split open until you knock me out and that is precisely what occurred. With me it is outside things, they constantly distract me, woman issues or what have you. I just kind of fell apart after that round. I am smart enough to know that I was going to lose that fight sitting backstage. Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hi and I am just kind of love, I’m screwed. This was a mental thing, that’s always been my biggest downfall. I have a brand new mental coach, he’s my mind Sherpa. He is overall made me a much better individual. As far as goes, he’s a big part of it.” Feeling Overlooked at Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there is other folks to discuss. I blew it with John; I screwed up in this fight. So perhaps I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let’s say this harm is just 6 months, they’ll talk about me then, that is fine. There are other people who deserve it. It does matter how good I can be or how good I am, it is not my turn. DJ needs people to struggle, the division needs people to move and shake and make a big stink. I do not mind it, it’s cool, whatever.” Raising a daughter as a single dad”Yeah it is not simple; realistically I don’t know anything about girls. I understand how to get one in bed that’s about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what’s happening?’ Do not cut your own hair, do not put soap in areas, like I do not understand. Realistically I have a lot help, I live together with my dad. My father got a divorce, he said move in, and I will help you out. My dad’s retired so he sort of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mother is still around; my kid’s grandma is around so I do have a lot of help. So I am not going to say I’m doing so alone, because I’m not. It requires a village to raise a kid and I got a village of people around me. Even if there are days where I must take her into the gym, there is always some one there. She is pretty damn independent I will take her to the beach; she can run around and swim on her own. She’s going to be fine.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design company; the only real fighters I hang out with are people I’m forced to hang out my buddies. I hang out with artists, fashion designers, artists and musicians and materials. They are hideous, like Jose Aldo said we seem like f***kin Power Rangers. The equipment is actually comfy; obviously Reebok makes a fantastic product. I don’t know who left the design, regardless of what generation we’re in 80’s 90’s, that doesn’t fit anything, it’s just ugly. But maybe I’m wrong; perhaps I am looking for something a bit cooler looking. Its functionality based gear; that’s all that matters. It is an evolution of the game. We needed it to shine, sure we are not going to have paid that much cash but it’s what it is. In case you have a problem then stop, these are the numbers we have to deal with. Now if you are smart and you can market yourself and advertise yourself in manners like I have. I have outside sponsors; I’ve Layrite, that is like a hair and mustache merchandise. I’ve got a great deal of clothes and lifestyle businesses. I receive a lot of exposure from materials like this. People today need to know t to step away from the boxmake money for themselves and have a smart agent.” Ideas on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at exactly the same time they run a small business. They run a multi-billion dollar corporation that’s a premiere sports league. If you find the machine which is the UFC, from the inside it is outstanding. The people are great; the business design is simply amazing. I would never say anything bad about the way that it’s all run, it is amazing if you enjoy company. The thing is that they didn’t need to consult with us because it’s their organization. We’re a commodity; as much as I want to say cool we ought to be earning money like baseball, football and basketball. Since we ought to we’re actually putting our lives at stake. But we’re not and I do not wish to quote Urijah Faber, he said’I never got into this for the money’ frankly I get it, I am a businessman.” Outside sponsors”Financially I am going to be fine. I am always going to find methods [to make money]. I own part of a social media company, I have a series that I host called Direct Endorsement, also it is a big charity matter. I have other things that is likely to make me money, therefore I will be fine. I really do believe for guys that don’t have much else or men that are not that smart. But that’s their own fault, figure it out it’s not rocket science.” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” show”Yeah I was speaking to Joe not too long ago. I’ve a growing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we always talk about it but it is a little bit of a drive out of my house with all the traffic. I’ll be up there soon, I must do some stuff in the area so I’ll be on there soon.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma along with his host DirectEndorcements.com.
